Highlights

Dr. Yuh-Jyh Jong is currently a chair professor of Kaohsiung Medical University and an attending physician of the Departments of Pediatrics and Laboratory Medicine of Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital (KMUH). Dr. Jong is the pioneer of pediatric neuromuscular disease in Taiwan since 1986. He has co-developed the spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) mouse model, which published in Nature Genetics in 2000, and become the main animal model for the development of disease-modifying drugs for SMA in recent years. Since September 2017, Dr. Jong has successively promoted SMA and Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) newborn screening in Taiwan to facilitate early detection of pre-symptomatic SMA and DMD to provide standard of care and to accelerate clinical trials. Dr. Jong has performed more than 15 clinical trials at KMUH, including: RNA drugs [Nusinersen (SMA), Eteplirsen (DMD), Drisapersen (DMD), Viltolarsen (DMD)], gene therapy [ Zolgensma (SMA), PF-06939926 (DMD)], and oral drugs [Risdiplam (SMA), Ataluren (DMD)], and published more than 230 international academic papers.
